spiritual training today...

Luckily my off day this week happens to fall on Good Friday, so that means I don't have to nix a day - seeing as how I missed my Saturday & Sunday runs because of John.  I've not had the best luck with fasting in the past, so I'm trying the other licit alternative - two small meals (not summing up to a single meal) as opposed to the single large meal.  I'm also going to try to be extra-cheery - because I usually turn into a reall bitch on fasting days and that usually violates the spirit of fasting & penance.

So, any one else fasting on this Holy Day?  If so, best of luck & bless you!

The run that never was

My 6 mile run didn't happen yesterday. The not sleeping all night because of a sick baby sort of messed me up. I ended up taking a 3 hour nap with him yesterday. I figured that very little sleep combined with a run might end up getting me sick - and that's the last thing I want two weeks before a race and two days before a job interview half-way across the nation.

He ended up only waking up at 3 am this morning. His fever came back, but he's sleeping much better. Hopefully I'll be able to make it out on my 11 mile run this afternoon. I'll be happy to put this week behind me. I'd been pretty good about making my runs in the previous weeks, but the sick infant & job interviews really threw me off pretty badly.

New book!

After waiting for months for it to come to a local religious bookstore, my wife finally got me the Collegeville Bible Commentary of the New Testament. I've started reading the letters of Paul to the various communities, but the commentary in my Bible was a little, shall we say, sparse? I really enjoyed their treatment of Acts of the Apostles, so I think this book will be a nice reference.
