This year we joined the ranks of parents who have an insane-o birthday party at a party place for their kid. I didn't feel I could have done enough for the party with three kids at home over the summer, especially since one of those kids has been teething for a month and does not think I need sleep. So off to Monkey Joe's it was. The kids had fun playing.
That's the only semi-focused picture I have of the first 75% of the party. Other jump places have your party in a smaller room where only you and your guests are jumping. This place has several parties and free play going on at once, so it was a little bit crazy. The kids had a great time, though, so it was worth it. It is so loud with the inflatables and music that it amazed me when Kate spent the entire party sleeping.
The party theme was Pokemon. I made a Pokeball cake and a Pokemon battle cake. John really enjoyed choosing the arrangement of figures and candles for the battle cake.
We then headed back to the party room for cake and hilarity with Monkey Joe himself. John got to sit in the birthday kid chair.
Monkey Joe helped us sing.
Then he pretended to eat cake. Being the savvy six-year-olds that they are, the kids proceeded with a line of questioning for Monkey Joe to prove they knew it was a person in a costume. One kid asked if he had a banana in his pocket. Really.
John was happy to have a crazy jump house party with so many of his friends. His smile is so incredible.
I made Kate a dress with adorable ribbon ties. Which she can untie. And then crawl out of her dress.
Oddly enough she refused to repeat the performance when I put her dress back on her and sat there with the camera, ready to film. Maybe the novelty had worn off. I'm going to have the camera ready the next time she wears this!
This is Kate's favorite toy. It's been through John and Pete and is still going strong. It's a little tiger marionette, but this time Pete renamed it Baby MODOK. MODOK is a Marvel comics villain (the purple and yellow guy here is the version the kids watch) and the name has stuck. Happy teething, Kate! Enjoy chewing on the Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing. Isn't it great having big brothers?
